SHIFTS OF BEING
Distant parish bells chime for morning prayers. Overhead,
… buzzards circle, …… slyly waiting
as I munch Bavarian pastrami & brittlekorn on the brow
… of my golden meadow’s
………. evolutionary fold. So begin
exclamations in this fertile orb of life,
… in this search for biological marvels across atmospheres
of altered hereditary values for a digital species
… plunged in through a ragged cosmic hole.
………. Journeys collecting
evidence begin in the Tyrolean Alps, judges praising
… the wealth of experimental indications to complement
raw whisky’s bitter bite, three superb
… clones of fresh biotic cells.
………. Progress measured in vials
of amniotic pizzazz:
… hemoglobin counts & oxygen’s parabolic drift,
chromosomes …… numbered & analyzed
… for evolution’s higher attributes. Al fresco juggling
………. across polygenic carbon,
abstract lines computed with all the diploidic phrases
… for amber eyes written there. Complex creatures outlined
into sky with atoms more intriguing than the stars,
… something drawn ………. from a prehistoric paradigm,
………. an old amoeba’s dream.
