SHIFTS OF BEING

Distant parish bells chime for morning prayers. Overhead,
buzzards circle, …… slyly waiting
as I munch Bavarian pastrami & brittlekorn on the brow
of my golden meadow’s
………. evolutionary fold. So begin

exclamations in this fertile orb of life,
in this search for biological marvels across atmospheres
of altered hereditary values for a digital species
plunged in through a ragged cosmic hole.
………. Journeys collecting

evidence begin in the Tyrolean Alps, judges praising
the wealth of experimental indications to complement
raw whisky’s bitter bite, three superb
clones of fresh biotic cells.
………. Progress measured in vials

of amniotic pizzazz:
hemoglobin counts & oxygen’s parabolic drift,
chromosomes …… numbered & analyzed
for evolution’s higher attributes. Al fresco juggling
………. across polygenic carbon,

abstract lines computed with all the diploidic phrases
for amber eyes written there. Complex creatures outlined
into sky with atoms more intriguing than the stars,
something drawn ………. from a prehistoric paradigm,
………. an old amoeba’s dream.
